Life has been a little scary lately…
I have been in the process of rezoning my land to agricultural from residential since around September. Rezoning is not a feat for the faint of heart. Passions run high whenever one person wants to change the status quo.
If you know me, you know I like to operate in the background. I dont like conflict. I dont like to disappoint others. I’m always the person who sees two sides to everything. I dont often take a stand.
When I learned that I would not be able to sell fruit in my modest orchard in a small village in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, it came as a big surprise. I had not planned on selling. After all, this was my first year of significant harvest. BUT
Neighbors asked to buy fruit. They came out my for orchard tours. They wanted to attend demonstrations and graft their own trees.
So I decided to take a chance, state my case, and move forward with rezoning.
rezoning /rēˈzōniNG/ noun, NORTH AMERICAN, the action or process of assigning land or property to a different category of restrictions on use and development.
Here I am today, on the last day of February, after 3 difficult public meetings, many sleepless nights, and a successful rezoning of my property. What have I learned?
rezoning is not for the faint of heart (worth restating)
if you have something you love that is worth fighting for…dont be afraid. Give it your best shot
you are never too old to be passionate about something. Dont let your age hold you back. Dare to live courageously.
Stay tuned for new activities, tours, demonstrations, and most of all FRUIT!!!!
