Today I read a post about an idea which has “planted a seed” in my mind
I read a post about a fellow grafter who was donating his talents to a local non-profit to offer free grafted fruit trees to others in need of food support. I thought it was a wonderful idea!
We often think of fruit harvests as just another benefit of the family garden, but many families who struggle to place food on the table could benefit greatly from such a free source of nutrition in their yard. The added benefit of caring for the plant and involving the family in planting and harvesting would be a plus.
Im wondering if anyone in our area has considered such a resource. There are multiple food sources and pantries in the area through local churches and non-profits. I have not heard of the idea of providing a living fruit source, though, except for community gardens.
Food for thought!
